SPIN: What’s the thing you’ve been most criticized for, in sexist terms?
Zappa: “Jewish Princess” [from Sheik Yerbouti]. The criticism came from an organized entity, the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai Brith. As if to say there was no such thing as a Jewish Princess. Like I invented this? They asked me to apologize. I said no. I told them I wouldn’t. And they managed to get PR for their organization for a year out of me. And actually it helped me. The Sheik Yerbouti album turned out to be the best-selling album I ever had.
