Montana Mountain is a significant landmark for the Tagish and Carcross Very first Nations residing in the area. Based on myth, Montana Mountain is one of the peaks Game Mother used to hang a swing for her animal creations. On this swing each kind of animal danced and sang an unique tune. Following this "celebration" Game Mother gave each animal their characteristic features of today. Along with its spiritual importance, the mountain was also a crucial source of food, medicines, and refuge.
