Pamela Des Barres: ex-Zappa governess

Pamela Miller went to Cleveland High School with Miss Sparky. A high-school colleague introduced her to Captain Beefheart, which resulted in her meeting people of numerous rock groups. Over the following years she had affairs with Mick Jagger, Jimmy Page, Keith Moon, Waylon Jennings, Chris Hillman, Noel Redding, Jim Morrison and was close friends with Robert Plant, Gram Parsons, Ray Davies, and the legendary cult music man FZ.

She was also the live-in nanny for oldest children, Dweezil and Moon Unit during the late 1960s. After a few years she was a member of one of the first all-girl rock groups, created by Zappa, the GTOs – Girls Together Outrageously.

Pamela Des Barres: Zappa was my mentor; he brought out in me all sorts of creativity I didn’t know I had. That was his main gift, I think. He insisted on it. He wanted you to be more of yourself than you’d ever really been, and he wanted to find out who you really were. He wanted everyone to be themselves, to a huge degree, and then he wanted to encapsulate that and share it with the world. So the fact that he wanted that out of me, was such an incredible gift….here is your gift…

On October 29, 1977 she married Michael Des Barres, but was divorced in 1991. She has kept her married name Pamela Des Barres and has published a pair of memoirs of her experience as a groupie….Boy, this is a nice picture….**

…And she as well appeared in 200 Motels as a rock newspaper journalist…

Pamela created quite a furor in 1987 when her controversial, tell-all autobiography, “I’m With the Band – Confessions of a Groupie,” appeared on bookstands.
